The concept for this renovation takes cues from history of town of Ayer, MA and surroundings: the Rail Industry which the economy was built on, the major railroad junction still used today that connects people and goods, and the Nashua River Rail Trail that runs through the city flourishing with flora and fauna.

Focusing on the Junctions, defined as a point where two or more things are joined, these rail junctions serve as symbolism for the joining of this historical building with the renovations as well as the bond that happens inside the building between the residents, the staff, and the community. Grounded, unity, connection, integration, and togetherness - set the tone for the design.
